Separated at birth?!?

Look I know Phil Jackson is not that old but damnit, these two must be the greatest zen masters in world... EVER!!!

Bodhidharma, Phil Jackson. One revived Buddhism when it was failing in China... one revived my beloved Lakers when they were sucking eggs in LA. One has hundreds of millions of followers in China, the other has millions of followers all over the world!!! One is Chinese, and the other is doing Jerry Bus' daughter. We can't trust the Chinese when it comes to Basketball because so far the only contribution they have given is Yao "I look like Drago in Rocky IV" Ming. But Phil Jackson, although his choice for Jeannie is questionable, he is the Zen Master who is making me smile.

He was able to take a bunch of inexperienced players like Luke Walton, Sasha V(I can't spell his name)zik, and Smush Parker, and make them play like they were seasoned veterans. He was able to take players that people have given up on, like Lamar Odom and Kwame Brown, and made them into the twoers of domination this side of Rasheed and Ben. And he was able to reign in the talent and spirit of The Ocho, and get the best year of his life out of him.

Ahh... the zen master. Now I know the sound of one hand clapping, since it is now slapping Steve Nash and his buddies right in their asses.

Thanks Phil!!!

MVP!!! MVP!!!

Some people hate him, some people adore him. They boo him for what he did or did not do in Colorado, yet people chant "MVP" because of how talented he is. They criticize him for hogging the ball, but even Allan Iverson admited he was calling everyone he knew to tell them to turn on their TV's and watch Kobe go for 81. He is an enigma in the NBA, yet there is something about the man that amazes me when I watch him play.

As a fan of the Lakers, through the good times and bad, I have watched in awe as Kobe just improves his game every year. I believe this is his best year yet, not because of the 81 points, not because of his scoring title, it is because he is finally coming to grips as to who he is supposed to be. He will never be the same wholesome guy he used to be, he's okay with that. He will never get the hearts of every fan, he's fine with that. He trains, plays, and lives to be great. And because of that he is inspiring those around him.

As a teacher, colleagues are suprised that given his indiscretions, his character flaws, I still cheer for the guy. To be honest, the thought of hating the guy never even crossed my mind. He made a mistake. The legal system said he was not to blame. He did something that most people (Look at ENRON) are not man enogh to do. He admitted he was wrong. People crucified him for this, for me, this made him into a man. As a wise man once said, "He who has no sins throw the first stone." I've been too busy ducking!

If you have not had the chance to see the Lakers play against the suns you are missing the start of a new era. Young, inexperienced players coming to their own, playing as a team. Learning from the tutelage of Phil Jackson, and inspired by Kobe, no matter what the result of the playoffs is, the Lakers (and Kobe of course) is nearing another era of greatness.

Another reason why I smile...

I just came upon this link and man I just had to share. This guy plays DDR, a dancing game that is popular to kids these days. (Whatever happend to good old fighting, beat em up, fighters like SF II and Mortal Kombat? But I digress...) But if you can see closely the guy does this with one leg. This guy is amazing... he has style and the moves to boot. Click on the picture to see a video of him dancing.

Just goes to show you what people can do if they put their minds to it. Kinda makes you think what this guy could have done if he put his mind into other things... but I guess that is another post for another day.

A salute to Rufio!!!

Rufio, Rufio, Ru Fi Ohh!!! Bangerang!!!

Who can ever forget the classic movie released in the 90's called "Hook". It had everything for everybody... Swords for the action lovers, Pirates for the pirate lovers, lost little boysfor... well... M. Jackson! See it had everything. But what made it special was the character of Rufio. The strong willed leader of the lost boys who ended up being the biggest fan of Peter Pan, he was what made that movie great!

Actor Dante Basco has not been given the props he deserves. I have friends who have made fun of him because he always plays different ethnicities aside from Filipino. They all had mean things to say, but I gotta admit... I like him as an actor. From horrible movies like Fakin the Funk, and that God awful PCN wannabe film The Debut, he has shown he is willing to do anything to succeed in his chosen profession. Nowadays he is doing voice over work, Jake in the "Jake Long: The American Dragon" and the Kick Ass show "Avatar: The Last Air Bender" and he is becoming a favorite of mine.

Recently another one of his movies came out... the one with Antonio Banderas. I am actually going to watch it just to see Dante Basco getting his groove on even if the movie involves Ballroom dancing. I wish Dante Basco success in his career. I look forward to seeing whatever else he does. Go Rufio!!!

Speaking of Ballroom dancing... the one with Richard Geere and J'Lo is actually a good movie, check it out.

What makes me smile...

There are certain things that puts a smile on my face. A well timed joke, fresh baked brownies (the edible kind... okay the not gross edible kind), seeing my friends, a good day at the beach, you know the simple things in life.

So is it so bad that when I saw this I could not help but smile? Short (no pun intended) and simple, this is a KISS cover band composed of self proclaimed little people. This is almost as good as the Michael Jackson impersonator that I saw on YouTube.com. I know we are all supposed to be tolerant but something about little people seem interesting to me.

Anyone else hate "Spring Forward"?

I was lying in bed today... (Is it me or does the word "lying" seem wrong to you? I'm too lazy to check a dictionary or Word, but I find myself looking at certain words I write and I think to myself, "That looks odd". I also find myself digressing from the main topic so I apologize about that) and my body is screaming that I should not be awake yet... I have a good hour to go!!! But alas, the outdated system, created for farmers, not praticed by the superior states of Arizona and Hawaii (okay maybe not superior... but damnit Hawaii makes good food and Arizona... welllll.... Hawaii makes good food), haunts me during this whole "spring forward" thing.

Why are they allowed to play with my body clock when in some religions only one person is allowed to play with your body? Not yourself (Which I have found rather unfortunate... which I guess is another blog waiting to happen) and it has to be in the context of procreation...

All I am saying is... enough with the manipulation of time... it takes me months to get used to it, and by the time I am we have to "fall back" again! That's it for now... see ya!!!

Welcome! Welcome!

I have to admit this may be the most hastily done blog page but darn it... I am soo happy with my Blog name!!! I was sitting here just typing out all the cool blog names I could think of, crying because all the good ones were taken. Lo' and behold!!! Di Di Mao is born.

Some of you may be laughing, if you are you must be a friend of mine. If not "Di Di Mao" is a phrase I once heard on the Simpsons. Bart utters the words "What part of Di Di Mao don't you understand?" at Skinner. For the longest time some of my friends and I have been wondering what it meant, I found out that in Vietnamese (the language spoken by the people of Vietnam, a country near Laos... which is a landlocked country near vietnam...) it means "hurry up", but when GI's (they seem to be the friends of a guy named Joe... think about it... eh? eh?) use it they mean "go away!"

So as my first post I welcome everybody to my blog site. I am very happy with it. I wish that you come as often as you like... but remember... "Di di mao"!!!
